Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

School History

Bob Hughes Christian School began in the heart of Pastor Tabaquero in the early 90s when he saw the need for more Christian schools in Liverpool and its surrounding areas. He envisioned a Bible-based, character-driven school that not only encouraged academic excellence but also the importance of instilling Biblical principles and values in the life of each child. This vision was soon realised when it was met with positive responses from concerned parents and members of Bible Baptist Church, Liverpool.

Throughout its short history, God has proven time and time again that He is a powerful, miracle-working Provider who never fails on His promises and blesses people who diligently step out in faith, without wavering.

The name Bob Hughes was chosen in loving memory of a missionary to the Philippines. He achieved what many considered was impossible and started what is considered the largest church in the Islands of Philippines. As set forth by Bob Hughes' example, the school testifies what God can do in the life of one individual who will choose to let God be God.

1995
Classes commenced in January after much prayer and the generous assistance of members from Bible Baptist Church. There were initially twelve children who met at the home of one of the parents. These children were taught by their parents who gladly volunteered their services. Due to its early focus on home schooling, it was called the Bob Hughes Learning Centre. This learning centre status was changed to a school after formal registration in 1998 when we were registered to teach primary years K - 4.

1998
Our first year as a registered school found us renting two small rooms at the Bankstown City Aged Care Centre in Georges Hall beginning with about 12 students and later reaching a population of 20 students at the end of the year. God provided the building, a qualified teacher in Mr Alan George and all the office supplies just one week prior to classes commencing with hardly any funds. Pastor Tabaquero was functioning as the Principal/Administrator of the school.

1999
The school continued to grow gradually, but the limited space did not allow for rapid growth. The school was granted registration for Years 5-6. Pastor Tabaquero was still meeting the roles of Principal/Administrator of the school. God miraculously provided us with the hghest level of funding and led us to organisations and people who were very helpful in ensuring we get started on the right track.

2000
With a population of about 30 students, the school was becoming more known in the community. Plans were being made to move to a larger location.

2001
This year saw the school undergo severe trials, and was almost on the verge of closing down. However, by the grace of God, it continued to strive even at its lowest point. It was a blessing to see the school venture into the High School grades for the first time with its approval for Years 7-8 registration. God blessed us with very dedicated and committed staff who were willing to pull the ropes when the going got tough.

2002
Mr Slack surrendered to serve the Lord in the school after God laid the burden in his heart. This year saw the Principal/Administrator role was handed to Mr Slack's capable hands.

In July, the school moved to its present location at the magnificent Southern Cross College campus in Chester Hill with a population of about 30 students. In the latter part of this year, the school was granted a 6-year registration for our Primary department, and 2-years registration for Years 7-10.

2003
2003 saw many more blessings being poured upon the school. The student population grew to about 50 students and continued to grow to about 80 at the end of the year. With God's help, funds were made available to allocate a computer for every student in high school and a sufficient number for students in primary. Plans were being made to accredit the school through to Year 12.

2004
In 2004, we have been blessed by a growing number of overseas students who have studied under our short course programs. The school population currently stands at 110 full-time students and still continues to grow.

Future Plans
By being a Christian testimony in the community, the school carries on the dreams that Bob Hughes envisioned and pursued many years ago for the glory of God - to reach the unreachable and achieve the impossible through faith in God. The obstacles and opportunities that have unfolded since its inception have been testament to this aspiration.

The school has come a long way from its humble start. It continues to grow from strength to strength. It does not intend to let hindrances hamper its growth. Future plans of expansion are currently being pursued. We are looking to purchase our own lot and building and increase student numbers. We are also planning to establish sister schools in various areas. Plans are also underway to enhance our facilities and equipment. This is just the beginning. We believe that when we "attempt great things for God", we can also "expect great things from God" - William Carey.
